BURLINGTON, MA June 7, 2005
Viapoint Corp. announced the release of an early access beta program for Viapoint Smart Organizer 1.4, which is designed to help desktop users fight information overload. In contrast to WinFS, , a similar product that will be released by Microsoft after the release of the Longhorn operating system sometime in 2006, Viapoint is available.today. The release of the Viapoint 1.4 beta provides a rapidly evolving smart client for filing desktop and Internet resources into virtual folders for WindowsNT, Windows2000, WindowsXP, and Windows2003.
The beta is a response to feedback from business users who were seeking to reduce the time required to establish organizational structures and to reduce the size of the Viapoint desktop footprint. These improvements make it easier for end users to maintain Viapoint and for OEM partners to distribute embedded versions of Smart Organizer 1.4.
“With the announced delays in the release of Microsoft WinFS both end-users and Windows developers are looking for a virtual file system that they can use, license, and extend today. So in this latest release we simplified Viapoint to deliver both a lightweight alternative to WinFS and a great stand alone application for business users,” said Viapoint CEO Aaron Abend.
Developers involved in the beta program are already adopting Viapoint into OEM applications including Intetek, a data visualization application provider. “We are integrating Viapoint to help solve the last mile problem for reporting on desktop usage for enterprise litigation cases and systems management applications” Said Simon Lague, VP for Inetek. “The updates simplify distribution to a network of desktops and make Viapoint a very attractive solution for supporting our enterprise customers.”
What’s new in the Viapoint 1.4 beta?
* The initial set-up for an organizational system now includes a Getting Started toolbox to save users time setting-up their organizational system.
* The toolbox provides templates based on common organizational structures and wizards to quickly build virtual folders from the companies and contacts with whom they communicate via email.
* A series of flash based tutorials teach users to use advanced capabilities like the Google Desktop Search adapter to find and tag items.
