Viapoint Organizer Adds Google Desktop Search Integration and Free Version
New free release recruits desktop search to help users organize contacts, companies, email, files, RSS feeds, and web favorites. www.viapoint.com
BURLINGTON, MA - March 17, 2005 -
Viapoint Corporation, the pioneer in desktop organization software, today announced the availability of Viapoint Smart Organizer 1.3. The new release includes the addition of new full text search features made available through integration to Google Desktop Search and a free license model. The free download is available at www.viapoint.com.
The Viapoint team took a novel approach to search by integrating with the popular Google Desktop Search application. Rather than investing in new search technology Viapoint partnered with the industry leader to leverage and extend the capabilities of a powerful free utility. "We chose to integrate with Google because they have superior search technology and an open approach" said Aaron Abend, CEO of Viapoint. "By partnering to achieve a key and complex component of our solution we are staying focused on helping people work more effectively through improved organization."
The integrated product allows Viapoint users to locate any item on their computer through a search and then drag and drop the item into a virtual project folder along with related items. Because virtual folders are automatically identified and created through templates the integration eliminates distractions from unrelated content by organizing automatically, reduces search time, and allows people to spend more time working productively. The Windows .NET smart client user interface delivers an enriched search experience to find items faster by creating and refining desktop searches through real-time filtering by resource type, instant as you type sub-filtering, and sorting of results by available columns.
"Professional organizers have been helping organize around the computer in people's homes and offices for years and face information overload. The new version of Viapoint provides a framework that finally allows them to reduce the clutter inside of computers." said Ramona Creel, founder of onlineorganizing.com.
The free version of Viapoint allows information workers unlimited use of Viapoint's full feature set to work organized with files, RSS feeds, and web links but requires adapters for connectivity to popular email programs and CRM applications.
"My computer doesn't work the way I think. The contents of my 800 gigabytes of disks used to feel like it was split across islands like Outlook, RSS, and web links. The combination of Viapoint and a full text search tool is a simple and elegant solution that is exactly what I needed to feel in control." said Teri Bennett, a recording label owner and Viapoint customer.
